BevSource Beverage Sourcing Company Launches New Tap Room in St. Paul Midway’s Renovated Court & Case Campus
Suntide Commercial Realty announces the addition of another tenant at the historic and newly renovated Case building, part of the Court & Case campus, near 280 and University in St. Paul’s Midway. The Lab brewery and beverage sample room opened its doors May 1.
The Lab joins Kimley-Horn engineering consultants, United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities and Elior-North America in the Case building. Other tenants are scheduled to move in this summer.
The Lab will serve as an adventurous tasting hub for consumers to sip and sample a variety of new and exclusive beverages before they are available in the market. The Lab is the latest endeavor by parent company BevSource, which helps beverage companies large and small bring their ideas to market, helping clients develop, produce, deliver and manage operations.
The Lab will feature new beers, hard ciders, cocktails, kombuchas, flavored waters and other beverages in development by a variety of emerging and established brands.
“This will be a family-friendly place where we sample all kinds of drinks,” says Janet Johanson, CEO of BevSource , parent company to The Lab. BevSource is an integrated provider of beverage development, production, sourcing and logistics solutions for new and established beverage companies. Johanson says a consumer-facing sample room is the perfect expansion to their existing business. “This is our first venture working directly with consumers so we want it to be a lively place to meet, try some new drinks and get a bite to eat.”
Johanson is planning on having food trucks at the venue to complement the beverage varieties.
“We may also braise meat with some of the beverages we’re developing,” Johanson says.
Joining Johanson on this venture is Matt Hall, Director of Research Development and former Brewmaster and Co-Owner of Lift Bridge Brewery in Stillwater.
“This will be one of the best taprooms in the Twin Cities,” Johanson says. “Our expertise as industry navigators will ensure that this will be a top quality experience with some of the best beers and other beverages our local artisans can make.”
Johanson worked with Jeff Hart and Kevin Peck of KW Commercial Midwest to move into the Suntide Commercial Realty-owned campus. She liked the central location to both downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul, access to public transportation, free parking, free bike storage and access from local trails, as well as the common amenities provided in the campus. She says the look, location and industrial feel of the building is perfect for the new taproom.
Highlights of the building, formerly a long-time tractor parts distribution warehouse owned by Case Corporation, include 15-foot to 18-foot ceilings, exposed spiral duct-work, open riveted steel trusses, glass garage door fronts, an expansive central atrium, out door patios and private shower facilities. The goal was to save and re-use as much as possible from the 1940’s building, including original skylights and marred concrete flooring.
“We’re thrilled to have The Lab joining our vibrant, historic campus,” says Max Currie, Principal and Chief Engineer of Suntide. “Our current tenants will love having a place to gather, get a bite and taste their latest offerings.”
